Prayer & Reflection Centre

Honest words for real situations. No performance required.

โ† Return to Faith & Hope
A gentle noticeThis section is provided for education, reflection, and encouragement. Duncan Survival Hub welcomes people from different Christian traditions, other faiths, and no religious background. Faith can support healing and resilience, but it should not replace emergency services, medical care, mental-health treatment, addiction support, or practical assistance.

What prayer is

Prayer in the Christian tradition is honest communication with God โ€” not a technique for controlling outcomes. You can pray while angry, confused, doubting, or too tired for words. Prayer works alongside practical action, medical care and community support; it is not a substitute for them.

Prayers for real situations

Morning prayer

God, thank You for this morning. I do not know everything today holds. Help me be honest, steady and kind, and show me the next good step.

Evening prayer

Lord, the day is over. Thank You for what went well. Forgive what I got wrong. Help me set down what I cannot fix tonight.

Prayer before sleep

God, keep me safe as I rest. Quiet my mind. Let sleep do its work, and let tomorrow start fresh.

Prayer when afraid

God, I am afraid. Stay close. Help me breathe, think clearly, and reach out to someone I trust.

Prayer for food and shelter

Lord, I need food and somewhere safe. Guide me to the right door today, and give me courage to ask.

Prayer during recovery

God, keep me honest today. Help me use the supports I have, and give me people who tell me the truth kindly.

Prayer for forgiveness

God, I have done harm. I am sorry. Forgive me, and help me make what amends I safely can.

Prayer after failure

Lord, I fell short again. Keep me from self-hatred. Help me learn something real and begin again without shame.

Prayer for someone who is sick

God, be with them. Guide the people caring for them. Give comfort, good treatment, and strength for the days ahead.

Prayer for grief

God of comfort, this loss is heavy. Sit with me. Let me grieve honestly and not carry it alone.

Prayer before an appointment

Lord, help me say what I need to say. Give me clear words, patience, and people who listen.

Prayer before court

God, be with me today. Give me calm, honesty and fair treatment, and help me accept what I cannot control.

Prayer before a difficult conversation

God, keep me truthful without cruelty. Help me listen, stay steady, and not say what I will regret.

Prayer when feeling angry

Lord, my anger is strong. Keep me from causing harm. Show me what is actually wrong and what I can do about it.

Prayer for wisdom

God, I need wisdom. Give me clear thinking, honest advisors, and the humility to change my mind.

Prayer for protection

God, keep me safe tonight. Watch over the people I love. Help me use good judgement about where I go and who I trust.

Prayer for people living outside

God, be with everyone sleeping outdoors tonight โ€” in rain, cold and wind. Send warmth, safety, dignity and open doors.

Prayer for outreach workers

Lord, strengthen the workers, volunteers and drivers who show up every day. Protect them from burnout and cynicism.

Prayer for healthcare workers

God, sustain nurses, paramedics, doctors and support staff. Give them clear minds, kind hearts and real rest.

Prayer for the Cowichan Valley

God, bless this valley โ€” its people, its rivers, its neighbourhoods. Bring housing, healing, safety and honest cooperation.

Prayer for Victoria

Lord, watch over Victoria โ€” those living outside, those working late, those who feel unseen. Bring practical help and dignity.

Prayer for Indigenous healing and reconciliation

God, we remember the harm done to Indigenous families, communities and cultures โ€” including harm done by churches. Help us listen to survivors, tell the truth, act justly, and support healing led by Indigenous people themselves.

Prayer for people of different backgrounds to live peacefully

God, help us live together honestly and peacefully across differences of faith, culture and background. Give us respect instead of contempt, and courage to protect one another.
